i hate when people write spring break like that, but i'm very happy that i'm on spring break!! school was out on friday, and all this week. it's great! then again i haven't gotten to enjoy much of it...yesterday my darling husband woke me up at 4:30 am to go fishing. that's right...deer and duck hunting may be over, but fishing has only just begun. we've already been two times before, but we went like normal people, in the afternoon, when it's warm. not so yesterday. 4:30 am. it's cold. the sun isn't up. there are 5 other people (men) waiting in line to buy minnows, and they think i look like an idiot in my spandex running pants, but i'm not about to be out there on the water in jeans, just in case we capsize. i'd like to try to save myself, not be dragged under by heavy wet jeans. so we got our minnows and head to the boat. he pushes me off from shore, jumps in, and we're off. just as we're halfway across the lake, making our way to a runoff, he shouts to me...i'm shuddering with my head tucked under a blanket...that the motor is 'running like a top!'. he sounds happy about this, so i assume that's a good thing. then the boat stops. i look up. he didn't do it. the motor quit. just quit. he says we're fine, and i, in all my love, tell him that it's ok if we aren't fine, but i'm not about to swim back to shore. he can send someone to get me. after 5 minutes, and multiple boats racing past us, he gets the thing started again. i'm back under the blanket. we make it around some curves and some trees in the water, and we find our spot. as we tie off to the bank, i notice that he has put me, in the back of the boat, by the bank. he's floating in the front, unattached to the shore. if something like a snake or a raccoon comes sliding down that bank, it's landing on me. oh yay. for most of the 4 hours we were out there, i was scanning the shore for rodents and critters. john caught a bunch of fish, i caught 2, and i was fine with that. next week is another chance. can't wait!

here's one that he caught a couple weeks ago when we went...

tonight i get to babysit the cutest kid in the world (until i have my own of course). every tuesday i've been babysitting baby nathan. he's in the sort of miserable phase right now though. if his mom leaves the room, he throws a fit. if she's home, he wants her to be holding him. when i walk in the door, he knows that means that she is about to leave, so he cries. the whole time she's getting ready he cries. the whole time i feed him dinner he cries. it wears him out though, so he ends up going to bed well, which is nice. but that shrill scream right in your ear? not so nice. he's just so cute though, that it's hard to get upset with him! and he's a year old...he can't tell you what's wrong, so he just cries. and cries. and cries. he's sweet though. and last week he fell asleep on me, and slept there for an hour and a half. so cute! this is his new trick...he climbs in the refrigerator and pulls everything out. gotta love him.

i think that babysitting him is good experience for way down the road in my own life, but babysitting him also helps me realize that it's gonna be WAY down the road.
